Over the past two years we have learned what works online
and what doesn't. We are proud to boast an 85% retention rate
among teachers taking our classes.

"I've already been alerting friends and peers at
the NYC Board of Ed to watch out for the next available offering from
Teaching Matters.
The well-paced classes are well designed and engaging. It is exciting,
as an educator, to experience firsthand the power of instruction on
the computer and over the world wide web.
This is a valuable glimpse of the future in education, and it is important
that we expose our kids to these tools on an age-appropriate level…
for they surely will be coming across similar formats and technologies
in later life… Computer-enhanced Distance Learning is especially important
to Learners with Special Needs who may have difficulty making it to
a physical classroom."

My class has visited the explosive volcanoes of Hawaii
on a virtual field trip. My group has downloaded live data from the
Internet, into a spreadsheet. Groups manipulated the data to find the
fastest growing city in the U.S. so that they could open up their new
business. With the 8th grade social studies test coming up in the spring,
I have learned to integrate primary sources in my lessons. Pictures
of immigrants at Ellis Island, of soldiers during WWI suffering from
trenchfoot, helped my students experience history instead of just reading
text from a boring book. I have learned to create hotlists so my students
stay on task and complete their projects as quickly as possible.
Apart from all the useful and transferable skills that
I learned at Teaching Matters, I am most grateful for the confidence
that I have gained. These technology courses have opened a wealth of
knowledge for myself and for my students. I never knew teaching could
be this much fun!"

"The @School Anytime Program with Teaching Matters, Inc. is without
a doubt a phenomenal program for EVERY teacher who wants to enter or
remain in this humble yet rewarding profession. The quality, preparation,
depth and breadth of content covered and execution of the program was
extremely impressive. Furthermore, the professionalism, competence and
caring instructors are added reasons for teachers who think they DO
NOT HAVE the necessary computer skills to survive an online course to
get enrolled. Certainly, this program can also prove to be very, very
valuable to those who already have computer skills. Simply put, you
can learn new or unique ways in applying your knowledge to challenge,
motivate or stimulate students' interest with the technology in the
world they now live in.
Speaking from the perspective of a person who already had computer skills,
teacher training qualification and approximately five years of teaching
experience; the program has added more dimensions to my teaching skills
and methodology. I have learned how to utilize and manage the limited
resources I had available in my classroom to create a different learning
atmosphere for my students. One of the most important techniques I have
gained was how to make the most of the Internet for teaching and learning
by being able to effectively search the web for information, create
and publish a web site so that my students learn the material themselves,
thus, making me more of a facilitator of learning. Most importantly,
this program has helped me to be more efficient and make me feel more
effective, especially in the field of gathering, analyzing and presenting
student data for evaluation purposes."

"To say that what I learned through my online sessions was influential
upon what I taught doesn't begin to express how great of an effect Teaching
Matters had upon my classroom and my teaching ability. Because of the
techniques I learned with Teaching Matters, I was able to instruct over
two hundred second- through fifth-grade students on how to make a website.
The incorporation of language arts, mathematics, and critical thinking
skills was evident in the result of their work: completely independent,
well thought-out, and informative website that was brainstormed, put
into writing, and finally uploaded onto individual websites. To see
samples of my students' work, go to my website at http://rroth.freeservers.com
and click on the links to awesome student designed websites!
I could have taught the students BASIC or simple programming, but with
the skills I learned at Teaching Matters I was able to take the children
into 21st Century technology and show them just how easy and awesome
technology can be, without making them focus on the learning that was
taking place right below their noses. Tell a child they have to write
a paper, and they will sigh, but tell them they have to develop a story
on the Internet, and their excitement goes through the roof!"
